Muneer Niazi (1922?2006), born in Hoshiarpur district on the Indian side of Punjab, was one of Pakistan?s greatest poets and songwriters. He was the recipient of the Pride of Performance Award in 1992 and the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) Award in 2005. He died in Lahore.
