"I am like a drop of water looking for another drop in the ocean to the world." The Comedy of Errors, a five-act comedy by English playwright and national poet William Shakespeare, was composed between 1589 and 1594. It was originally printed from Shakespeare's manuscript in the First Folio in 1623. It was based on Plautus' Menaechmi and included extra passages from Amphitruo and Apollonius of Tyre. Antipholus and his slave Dromio travel to Ephesus in search of their twins after becoming separated from them both in a shipwreck. There are several instances of mistaken identity because the other set of twins reside in Ephesus and the new newcomers. The twins eventually succeed in locating one another and their parents, and they are able to end all of their previous troubles.? ?The play?s comedy springs from the presence of twin brothers, unknown to each other, in the same town. The plot twists regale readers with suspense, surprise, humour, and excitement. Superbly constructed and flawlessly executed, The Comedy of Errors reveals Shakespeare?s mastery of the dramatic form.
