A witchcraft-practicing secret club includes Charlotte Pettifer as a member. Charlotte is desperate to locate the gem before it ends up in the wrong hands as rumours of the Amulet of Black Beryl start to spread. Which is what occurs when Lady Armitage, the evil one, gets there first. Charlotte sets off to find the jewel with the rakish pirate Alex O'Riley's assistance. There is only one issue: witches and pirates are mortal foes. But they have no idea that fireworks are going to break out.
