Jazz, short for Jasmine, and her parents have recently relocated from Sydney to Brighton so that Jazz's father, Mikey, can pursue his career as a music producer. Jazz is struggling to fit in at her new school, and her love of surfing appears to be doomed for good. Brighton's beaches not only contain stones instead of sand, but the water is bitterly cold. However, there is no surfboard in sight. Amber, her older cousin, whom she meets during a family dinner in London. Amber detects Jazz's discontent and tells her about the Moonlight Dreamers, a hidden organisation of like-minded friends she created years ago. Amber advises Jazz to find a group of soulmates and join her own Moonlight Dreamers. Jazz is initially wary, but eventually decides to leave postcards for potential soulmates, just as her cousin did. As a result, a new generation of Moonlight Dreamers emerges. Allegra, Hope, Portia, and Jazz are all quite different, but they quickly become close friends who are always there for one another. They listen to one other's troubles and hopes, and they help each other make their dreams come true.
