In Bengali fiction, Chetnaprabah-riti i.e. stream of consciousness genre novels have hardly been written. The first two novels of this genre were written by Gopal Halder and Dhurjati-Prasad Mukherjee? 'Ekda' and Antahsheela' respectively. Ekda was composed in 1933 but published in 1939. 'Anthashila' was published in 1935.So neither of the two authors have read the other's book. Especially at that time, Bengali literature had some impression of following stream of consciousness style of western literature. The heyday of this genre of novels in France and England was from 1913 to 1925-26.
