The Foundation series of books by Isaac Asimov, in which the future is foreseen through sophisticated mathematical modelling of human psychology and behaviour, has always captivated Brian Clegg. He didn't realise that game theory was the real-world analogue of Asimov's "psychohistory" until much later.
