Gandhar was a small kingdom, ruled by Maharaja Subal. His beautiful daughter Gandhari came to the royal palace of faraway Hastinapur as a daughter-in-law and as soon as she arrived, all the dreams of that young newlywed were shattered when she found the emperor of her dreams, the blind Dhritarashtra, dependent on her. She too had to wear a blindfold all her life and felt cheated. In this novel, sometimes she appears as a helpless woman, and sometimes as a powerful mother who gets furious at her son who is busy in intrigues. The walls of Hastinapur were made of very thick and impenetrable stones, but they were not so impenetrable that the human feelings of a woman like Gandhari could fit into them; in this creation, there is a lively description of those feelings in an autobiographical style, which will take you straight to the era of Mahabharata.
