Rabindranath Tagore's demeanour and artistic output were fundamentally influenced by his travels. In order to have his writings published in several Bengali periodicals, Tagore wrote them while visiting England and the USA in 1912?13 and 1920. Tagore chose 14 of these writings, together with an appendix containing 7 letters he had written to several of the Shantiniketan ashram teachers while on these visits, for publication as a book in 1939. In addition to making significant revisions to the texts, Tagore recreated the original writings using informal language rather than formal terminology. Later printings changed the amount of articles, occasionally departing from Tagore's original choices and occasionally returning to his original formal style. The travelogue sheds light on Tagore's understanding of various aspects.
