American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, logicalian, social critic, and political activist Avram Noam Chomsky holds these positions. Chomsky, who is sometimes referred to as "the father of contemporary linguistics," is also a significant figure in analytic philosophy and one of the creators of the discipline of cognitive science. He has spent more than 50 years at MIT, where he currently holds the title of Institute Professor Emeritus.
