Letters from Franz Kafka to his one-time muse, Milena Jesenska - an intimate look into the ambitions and hopes of the twentieth century's most prophetic and influential writer. Milena Jesenska met Kafka in 1920 while translating his early short work into Czech, and their friendship immediately blossomed into a passionate connection. Kafka's feelings for her were so strong that he showed her his journals, exposing his heart and conscience. While Milena's 'talent for living' gave Kafka new life at times, it eventually drained him, and their relationship lasted little over two years. Kafka died in a sanatorium outside Vienna in 1924, and Milena died at the hands of the Nazis in 1944, leaving these letters.
