The current series' goals are to provide a representative sample of how sensitive minds from various languages have viewed Gandhi and to create through collage a perspective on how Mahatma Gandhi was received by the Indian literary community over the last 100 years, from the time he came to the attention of the Indian public in the second decade of the twentieth century to the year 2019?which marked 150 years since his birth. By weaving together a communal view on the Mahatma's life and work via the prism of creative writing in Indian languages, we hope to pay tribute to him on this historic day. The collection aims to compile Gandhi-related writing in as many Indian languages as it can. This book includes literary works that were influenced by Gandhi as well as some Bengali-language analytical essays. Poetry, theatre, novels, and short stories are the four main literary genres from which the works have been chosen. There are also some of Tagore's letters to Gandhi.
