Saadat Hasan Manto is most known for being a rebellious writer who did not back down from taking on social injustices. Manto's short stories created quite a stir in literary circles, whether it was because of the Partition of India and Pakistan, which massacred and split people along religious lines, or the erotic dreams of women. Sanchari Mukhopadhyay translated 25 of his well-known short stories into Bengali for the first time in literary history, faithfully preserving the magical realism that makes these works as relevant today as they were more than 60 years ago.
