Marietta Stelle aspires to be a ballerina, but as Christmas approaches, she realises that her dancing days are numbered because she will soon be married and taking up a position in society. However, the enigmatic toymaker Dr. Drosselmeier's acquisition of a nearby townhouse signals the beginning of enchantment and wonder in Marietta's life. Drosselmeier builds a complex stage set for her final ballet performance on Christmas Eve, but Marietta soon learns that it has a magic of its own?a magic that is darker than anybody could have imagined. Marietta is suddenly transported from her family's ballroom to a frozen sugar palace in a forest of snow-topped fir trees as the clock strikes midnight. She needs to find a way home before she becomes locked in Everwood?s enchanting grip forever.
