Public policies are prevalent in India. Despite its widespread use, yeh public sab nahin jaanti hai (the general people does not fully understand it). The Indian State, the entity that develops laws, interprets them, and penalises people who transgress them, is rarely questioned. Because we have given up on the State, the wealthy can afford to ignore it. The less fortunate have accepted a State that only offers temporary benefits. In either case, we rarely stop to consider the reasons the Indian State is structured the way it is. In order to show India's experimentation with public policy, Missing in Action uses sketches from real-world situations to challenge these views. It introduces the reader to some of the core ideas of the field of public policy.
