The war in Bastar has taken a heavy toll on the people of Bastar, the security forces, the Maoists, and human rights activists beginning in 2005 when a government-sponsored vigilante movement, Salwa Judum, killed hundreds of villagers and drove thousands of them into camps, to the present day when it is the most militarised area in the country. This book details how some of India's poorest and most vulnerable inhabitants have suffered greatly as a result of the violent confrontation between the government and the Maoists. The battle has become more intense as a result of Bastar's large mineral deposits, which have also ruined the region's ecosystem and culture: India's War in Bastar.
