Little Milkha Singh grew up in a small village in Punjab, adored by his parents, and surrounded by broad fields where he could play, run, and fly kites. He would run like the wind to get home quickly during the sweltering summer months when he had to walk barefoot to school. His family and home were eventually taken from him one day while there was awful violence and unrest going on. Milkha, who was still a teenager, was friendless and lonely before being enlisted in the Army. He eventually discovered his love and joy?running?here. Milkha trained and practised against the huge odds with the intention of becoming the best runner for India. Eventually, he did so and took home medals in both national and international competitions.
