Frank has a talent for locating the music his clients need to hear. He falls in love when he meets Ilsa Brauchmann, a fascinating and attractive woman without a musical ear who is betrothed to another man. She is far superior to him and will never be his, but he will lead her on a musical trip nonetheless. After 12 years, Ilsa goes looking for Frank. No one knows where he is; the shop has vanished; perhaps he has passed away. The only thing left are a string of musically connected hints. Ilsa decides to follow them and use music to revive Frank the way he once did for her.
