Devi Drakhani is worshipped by offering a gory sacrifice. Every year on the Kaushiki amavasya night, the temple is covered in the blood of 365 goats and one woman. Not just any woman, but one who has been identified as Rajmahishi, Raja Chakrabarti Indrashish's wife. After seven days of festivities, on the auspicious day of ashtamangala, King Indrashish selects a virginal damsel to be his consort. The chosen woman leads a regal existence as Rajchakrabarti's queen. till she is prepared for the goddess at the following puja. At the altar made of gold-cast, she is afterwards beheaded. Her body is carried away by the currents of the river while her head is presented to the goddess. The virgin handpicked for the Devi Drakhani ritual this year is the daughter of a farmer. Urmi?s mother Mugdha cries at the rotten luck of her daughter. Will Urmi be able to break the cycle of this macabre tradition?
